A Pastoral Theme

Čekala, panna touhou zmatená
a nedočkavá slunce na objetí.
Prs, poupě pevné vzrostlých přes noc dětí,
rozpiatá, bujná, smělá ramena.

"...Awaited, a virgin by passion confused
and impatient for the embraces of the sun..."

Jarními stromy, květy, travami
zpívala zpěvy prostých luk a polí
a vše, co ztrátou zrývá a co bolí,
byl cit jí nejasný a neznámý.

"By the spring trees, blooms and grass
songs of the simple fields she did sing
and everything that hurts of a loss
to her was a sense unknown."

A sama vášeň, nevědomý hřích,
a sama lůno, plod když mízou vzkřísí
čeledí, rodů, druhů tvar a rysy,
počala - v slunce mocných objetích.

...

V objetích slunce, v jarních, modrých dnech
vysála rozkoš blaženou a krátkou,
všeho, co žije, stala se tak matkou
a v žhavých rodila nás polednech.

"In the embrace of the sun in spring days
a delight so blissful and short she had absorbed
The mother of all that lives she has become
And gave us birth in the blistering noons."

A, zrajíc v ženu, k létu, k jeseni
jak vadla, chladla, rubáše nám tkala.
To na mrtvé a rakve uvykala,
smír s láskou majíc ve svém mlčení.

"And growing up into a woman in the summer,
as she was fading, shrouds for us she did weave.
For the dead and the coffins she was inuring,
reconciled with love in her silence."
